Working on new art pieces every day and making plans for shows and events in 2022!
Painting is how I study and learn, whether it’s something from nature, a personal experience, or a feeling I chose to explore. It’s a deep dive that I do that uncovers information to me that is easily overlooked by my typical casual observations.
I see the world around me in a new way after seeing it through the eyes of artists I admire, so I am delighted when my artwork has that affect for others. I’m just as thrilled when someone recognize some of their own deep observations in my work, in this way we have a connection with each other.
I’m a turtle not a hare when it comes to painting, each painting develops over a series of paint sessions sometimes taking me weeks to complete. The pauses between sessions are as important as the time at the canvas, they allow mental and emotional space that I use to study a piece and reflect on what to resolve next. I tend to paint in series or collections. In this way, I explore a subject from different angles or points of view. Light and colour never cease to amaze me, so if I’m painting abstract, florals or landscape, my paintings are my discoveries about light and colour and how they interact with each other and everything around them.
I studied fine art at Sheridan College and DVSA on and off throughout my life. It seemed that no matter how demanding life was, I had to be doing something artistic to strike a healthy balance. I’ve worked with hot glass, pottery and printmaking and many types of paint mediums and I enjoyed each and every one of them, but for the past 9 years I’ve been enjoying painting with acrylics for the majority of my work.
